Renewable energy
The global energy market is characterized by a growing gap between surging demand and a restricted supply of energy. At the same time, carbon emissions from non-renewable energy sources are at the top of political agendas.
There is much pressure, and expectation, to find alternative and renewable sources of energy. According to a recent report published by the Renewable Energy Policy Network, investments in renewable energy have doubled since the year 2000 and amounted to $30 billion in 2004.
At the moment, renewable energy (excluding large hydro) supports approximately 4% of global power consumption.
